Present Situation

Miguel Lopez-Fitzgerald entered hell this week. Twice. On the first descent he was passed around a room of demons in a manner described by a source close to the matter as resembling a basketball. He punched a demon. He was knocked unconscious. He entered hell a second time. He fell through the ceiling of the Bennett living room covered in goo with no pulse. He is, at press time, recovering.

Charity remains in hell. The Gazette notes that Miguel's commitment to this situation has been total, which this paper considers a documented fact about his character.

Background

Miguel is the fourth of five children born to Pilar Lopez-Fitzgerald and Martin Fitzgerald, and by all accounts the most straightforwardly decent of the lot, which in Harmony is a precarious position to occupy. He is a straight-A student with an extensive dating history that ended the moment he met Charity Standish in the summer of 1999. It was love at first sight. It has remained love since.

His closest friend growing up was Kay Bennett, a fact that will become extremely significant shortly and which Miguel does not currently appreciate in the way that this paper does.

Miguel and Charity

The moment Miguel met Charity Standish, his heart belonged to her. That is the show's own language and the Gazette endorses it. Their path to each other has been obstructed by amnesia, supernatural interference, and Kay Bennett at every possible turn. Miguel has not wavered. This is the kind of constancy you put on television and cannot lose.

The Gazette notes that this love story is, per prophecy, literally world-altering. If Miguel and Charity fully unite, Charity's powers of ultimate goodness will be triggered and all evil will be eradicated from the universe. This is a significant relationship.

The Kay Problem

Kay Bennett has loved Miguel since childhood. Miguel has treated her as his best friend, which is not the same thing and Kay knows it. The Gazette has noted that Miguel's obliviousness to Kay's feelings is either a character flaw or a structural necessity and may be both.

Kay's recent decision to open a portal to hell in her bedroom was motivated, as with most things Kay does, by Miguel. The Gazette is tracking this situation and will report developments as they occur.
