Present Situation

Kay this week committed what this paper can only describe as a series of escalating supernatural crimes, culminating in the opening of a closet portal to hell in her own bedroom. Reese built a ghost containment unit and captured Hecuba. Kay freed Hecuba. Kay then assisted Hecuba in opening the portal. Charity Standish, who had the misfortune of being in the vicinity, subsequently fell into it. Father Lonigan is now on site with holy water. This escalated quickly and the Gazette has the full record.

Kay's motivations throughout were, as ever, Miguel. Her remorse, as of press time, has not been observed.

The Miguel Problem

Kay Bennett has been in love with Miguel Lopez-Fitzgerald for as long as either of them has been old enough to experience such feelings. This love is not reciprocated in the way Kay requires. Miguel loves Charity Standish, who is by all supernatural accounts the embodiment of goodness itself and the girl whose union with Miguel would, per prophecy, eradicate evil from the universe. Those are the facts and they are significant facts.

"Motivations: hornt for Miguel. Remorse: unseen."

This is a problem for Kay on multiple levels. She wants Miguel. She cannot have Miguel while Charity exists. She has therefore, with varying degrees of planning, been attempting to neutralise Charity since the show's early episodes. You give Kay access to dark magic and you are going to get consequences. That has been consistently demonstrated.

Descent into Scheming

Kay began as Harmony High's classic mean girl. Snide, calculating, and possessed of an instinct for social cruelty that would have kept her comfortably employed as a villain in a more grounded drama. Passions, however, gave her access to supernatural resources, which she used with characteristic lack of foresight.

The Gazette records no instance of Kay pausing to consider consequences. This is not a criticism so much as an observation.

The Bennett Household

Kay is the eldest child of Sam Bennett, Harmony's Chief of Police, and Grace Bennett, a woman of warm temperament, psychic soup, and, as of very recently, a fall down the stairs following symptoms of pregnancy. The household is a study in contrasts. Grace radiates goodness and tomato soup cake. Kay has opened a portal to hell in her bedroom. Sam is a police chief who appears to have limited investigative capacity when the crimes occur within his own home, and the Gazette has noted this discrepancy more than once.

Grace's fall this week has added a new dimension of chaos to a household already operating well beyond its structural capacity for supernatural incident.

Tabitha's Assessment

Tabitha Lenox, who lives next door and has become something of an accidental mentor to Kay, regards her with the resigned exasperation of a professional watching an enthusiastic amateur make avoidable errors at scale. Kay has talent. Kay has ambition. Kay has the impulse control of someone who has never once asked "but what happens next," and the Gazette wants to note that this is a real gap. Tabitha, who has centuries of dark magic experience, finds this both useful and exhausting. The Gazette finds it one of the show's most compelling dynamics.

Entanglements

Miguel Lopez-FitzgeraldObject of obsession. Does not love her back. This has not deterred her.
Charity StandishCousin. Rival. Currently in hell closet. Kay's fault.
Tabitha LenoxNeighbour. Reluctant tutor in the dark arts.
Sam BennettFather. Chief of Police. Unaware of most of this.
Grace BennettMother. Currently recovering from stair-related incident.
HecubaFreed by Kay this week. Now drinking Martimmies at Tabitha's.
