Bennett Family · Sam's Wife · Charity's Aunt
Grace Bennett
Wife of Sam. Mother of Noah, Kay, and Jessica. Aunt of Charity Standish. Has no memory of her life before Sam rescued her from a Boston fire in the late 1970s. Makes a tomato soup cake that is, by all accounts, extraordinary. Has just fallen down the stairs.
Active · ChangedPresent Situation
Grace Bennett is, at press time, in hospital following the confirmed loss of her pregnancy. She saw Sam Bennett embracing Ivy Crane in the corridor and collapsed. What followed was one of the more affecting scenes of this week: Grace damned Ivy to hell. She used the word WROUGHT. She told Ivy the curse would last her entire life.
The Gazette notes that the warm, measured Grace Bennett of previous coverage has set aside that characterisation. Dr. Eve Russell was present and concerned. The Gazette is tracking developments.
The Fire and the Name
Grace has no memory of her life before the night Sam Bennett rescued her from a burning building in Boston in the late 1970s. He found her unconscious, found a piece of paper in her pocket with the name Grace on it, and named her accordingly. They fell in love and married. He brought her to Harmony. They built a family.
What Grace does not know: the fire was set by Tabitha Lenox, who did not want the Standish women coming into their full supernatural powers. Grace has powers she cannot fully access because of the memory loss. Her twin sister Faith Standish knew about them. Faith died in a fire in 1999, also set by Tabitha, when Charity was trying to find her. The Gazette notes that Tabitha's arson record in relation to the Standish family is extensive.
The Soup
Grace Bennett's tomato soup cake is one of Passions' great recurring details. It is made with Campbell's tomato soup. It was the subject of a product placement arrangement. It is, by the testimony of everyone who has eaten it in the show, extraordinary. Tabitha Lenox, who lives next door and is actively working to destroy Grace's family, reportedly cannot stand the soup, which the Gazette considers evidence that the soup has supernatural properties of its own.
Psychic Sensitivity
Grace has an unacknowledged psychic sensitivity that manifests in the form of feelings about people and situations. She senses things. She has never fully understood this ability or connected it to the Standish family legacy. She is drawn to Charity because she senses their connection before she consciously knows about it. She is, at various points, uneasy in Tabitha's presence in ways she cannot explain.
The Gazette notes that Grace is one of the characters most damaged by not having access to her own history, and that her arc in the show is partly about what it costs to not know where you come from.
